I was able to view and reserve the car after calling him, and test drive too. The car I bought was exactly as advertised, clean, well maintained and at a reasonable price. My only minor concern was if you’re paying on card, his Sum-up (chip and pin card reader) charges him 2% per transaction, which you will have to stump up unless you’re paying in cash, Otherwise, very good, and I would recommend.

Shane dealt with my purchase and was very helpful by explaining the controls and answering all questions.  I initially put a deposit down on a car but later had a change of heart. After making contact a couple of days later and explaining the reasons as to why I was now unsure about the cars suitability for me I was told they understood and to take some time in making my final decision.

I was still agonising a few days later as to what I should do when another car came onto the website and I knew it would be much better suited to my needs. After messaging them, they immediately put the car on hold to give me time to make arrangements to go and view it. Once again, they took time to explain the ‘ins and outs’ of the car which I collected the following day. Throughout all this they remained friendly and helpful.

I cannot praise Torbay Motors highly enough, instead of trying to push-me into making a decision on something I was unsure about or alternatively marking me down as a time waster and writing me off, I was given the time I needed to make an informed decision and find the right car for my needs and lifestyle.

Purchased a car for my daughter in October and was happy at the time. However, within the first 2 weeks the car needed new brake pads and discs it was metal on metal. The actual mirrors on both wing mirrors fell out. Needed a new exhaust a few weeks later. I don’t know how this car passed its mot. Spent out best part of £1000 on repairing it. My daughter contacted the owner and said she had a months warranty which we didnt know about as we would have contacted them about the brakes. The aftercare is horrendous. We gave up and in December went to a reputable dealer and got another car. Do not use this dealer.

Torbay Motors offered excellent service and communications. We called on the day to take a look at a car they were selling, and we were invited to take a look the same day.  We travelled up by train from Plymouth, and Torbay Motors were kind enough to collect us from the train station in the car we were interested in. The chap we spoke to (sorry terrible with names) gave us options on areas to visit to best test the car out.

He covered a test of all the electrics and general functions of the car, everything was in good working order as per the ad. We paid with a credit card, which incurred a 2% charge, but this was expected having experienced this before.  I didn’t feel there was anything worth haggling over so paid full price. We asked kindly if we could loiter on his property while we sorted insurance and tax and he helped us process our vehicle tax application which was a nice touch!

Throughout the meeting we didn’t feel rushed and all of our questions were answered. Thank you for the great service!

To anyone thinking of buying a second hand car- you should DEFINITELY go to Torbaymotors. I have now had 3 cars over the years from them, and each one has been an absolute gift. I have not had any problems whatsoever, which is why I am returning……and will in the future.

I cannot recommend Torbaymotors highly enough, decent and dare I say it, caring. Almost unheard of in the second hand motor industry. They took time to talk me through the car, sets up the road tax  the sales guy arranges a convenient time for you to visit and goes out of his way to make sure you get what you want.  The latest Vauxhall that I bought from Torbaymotors was at an emotional time for me, as my last car (NOT from Torbaymotors I hasten to add!!) caught fire from a dodgy alternator, with myself and my 10 yr old son inside it. Torbaymotors went over and above to help me, even letting me leave the courtesy car I had been using to be collected from his location.

I don’t want a dealer who is lovely when everything goes swimmingly. I want a dealer who cares when things go wrong. I bought an Audi A3 from Shane at Torbay Motors and got a fair deal. He’s a tough negotiator but fair and there is no pressure selling. Within a week of collecting the car the engine management light came on. After checking the warranty to confirm the fault was covered Shane arranged to have the car back, booked it in and got the work done with no fuss at all. He even picked me up from the train station both when I collected the car originally and when I picked it up following the work. £500 of work carried out with no issue by Torbay Motors. Any dealer can be nice when nothing goes wrong. Choose a dealer who cares about you and your car after you’ve driven away. 5* company and 5* service. I’ll definitely look for torbay motors for my next car in a few years time.

Highly recommend! Excellent service, I went to travel to torbay motors from Exeter by train and kindly got picked up. I went for a test drive and decided to buy my Chevrolet Matiz.
